Dr. Sumant Jha

[email protected]

Dr. Jha is an Earth Scientist working on the USGS ShakeAlert program at
USRA/NASA Ames Research Center through RIACS. He earned his Ph.D. in Geophysics
from Colorado State University, focusing on understanding the geodynamics of the West
Antarctic lithosphere. His primary interests encompass geoscientific and geocomputing
research, specifically studying the earth's tectonic activities that contribute to the formation
of rifts, mountains, basins, earthquakes, and volcanic activities. Furthermore, he is
dedicated to developing toolboxes and codes for analyzing, modeling, and visualizing
geophysical data.
Previously, at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Dr. Jha made significant contributions to
an interdisciplinary framework that employed satellite and airborne data. This collaborative
effort aimed to enhance the discoverability, accessibility, and usability of NASA's Earth
science data holdings, effectively meeting the data needs of the research community. Dr.
Jha is also an active advocate for inclusion and serves as a panel member of USRA's DEIA
initiative.
